Manual app updating, prior to iOS7, was beneficial to developers as a mechanism to notify their customers that a new version was available1. Since Apple doesn’t otherwise provide developers with a way to communicate directly with their customers, that indirect mechanism served an important role. – DeFacto
I wonder, aside from the lack of notifications and information: how will users react when their apps look totally different upon relaunching it due to a silent update? Or say Evernote pulls another Skitch and removes features overnight? Or even worse.. what if Amazon pulls another Kindle and removes all your books while updating automatically?
Automatic updates are nice, but we won’t see any changelogs anymore when an app updates. Maybe Apple can implement some kind of Change Log Sheet that opens on first launch after an update?
