Regardless of what (of the existing Star Wars EU) gets kept, the chainsawing of canon is unequivocally a good thing. It's time to dump the EU into the garbage chute and feed it to the dianoga.
Two quotes do apply here as valid reactions:
"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."
"The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old republic have been swept away."
With Dark Horse loosing its license, the EU now being decimated, Disney is clearly making its mark upon the franchise.
Imagine them doing the same with Marvel comics: all existing comics up till now are considered non-canon. Can you imagine the backlash?
Or maybe we should just look at it the same way comics do: we had one evolution of the Star Wars universe after Return of the Jedi written by Lucasfilm. And now there's a Disney version. Both true. From a certain point of view.
